Universal Cup Founder Qingyu Shi Elected to the IOI International Scientific Committee

On August 15, at the seventh General Assembly (GA) of the 2026 International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) in Uzbekistan, Qingyu Shi, founder and co-president of the Universal Cup, was elected to a three-year term on the IOI International Scientific Committee.

In his statement, Qingyu introduced his extensive experience in judging, problem setting, training, and technical work for programming contests worldwide. He also shared his vision for further connecting the global competitive-programming community, encouraging more outstanding problem setters to contribute, and balancing problem difficulty with a positive contest experience for participants of varying skill levels. His election received broad support from team leaders and coaches around the world, including those from Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East.

This trust recognizes Qingyu’s longstanding commitment to the competition community and encourages the work Universal Cup has undertaken in recent years. Looking ahead, we will continue to uphold the values of openness, public service, and international collaboration; serve the global algorithmic-competition community with dedication; and work with partners across regions to advance the field together.
